Whoa Nellie!

After being away from home for an entire weekend, I was glad to get back.

Not long after I was home, I heard the window screen rattling like it was being removed. So I opened the front door...

There she was, frozen like a statue, holding up the window screen. She just sat there staring at me.

"What are you doing?" I asked as if she would actually respond.

She sat very still, licking her nose and staring at the ground. Her reaction made me feel guilty for scolding her.

"You don't live here," I told her. "You need to go home."

She looked at me and kind of smiled, then she darted off.

I fixed the screen and went back inside.

The next morning, I was getting ready for work when I heard a boom on my patio deck.
I rushed out to see...

"What are you doing?" I asked her with my hands on my hips.

Again, she stopped what she was doing and sat very still, licking her nose and looking at the ground.

She was like a child getting scolded, and I felt badly for getting on to her.

"Little kitty, you don't live here," I told her. "You need to go home."

She meowed and shot off.
I cleaned up my broken pot and plant then went back inside.

The next morning, I took the trash out before I headed off to work. In the dumpster I heard "WHAM! SLAM! BAM!" I rushed over to look inside...

"What are you doing?" I asked.

As before, she stopped what she was doing and sat very still, licking her nose and staring down.

"Little kitty, you don't live here," I told her. "You need to come home."

She purred as I picked her up out of the dumpster.

"I think we will call you Nellie," I whispered.
